FAQs

How can I tell which plastic bottles are No.1 or No. 2?

Usually, the number is located at the bottom or lower part on the container. Clear plastic containers such as water bottle, soda bottles, ketchup, mustard, mayo, salad dressing etc. are No. 1. Other opaque containers such as laundry detergents, Clorox wipes, Plant food or CLR containers are No.2 .

Can I recycle other plastics?

All plastic bags, bubble wrap, and other forms of packaging plastics may be recycled by taking them back to HEB or Walmart or department stores that have recycle bins at their entrances and placing them in their recycle bins. Unfortunately, our recycler does not have the capabilities of recycling plastic bags or bubble wrap. The only plastic that our recycler will take is called pallet wrap.

If you have any ideas on this, please fill out a suggestion form and submit it to Advisory Council.

How can we be more efficient with the Recycling containers?

We can make better use of the space in the containers by collapsing any cardboard containers and crushing aluminum cans as well as plastic bottles & containers prior to placing them in the RedFish containers. As well, where possible, try to place your recyclables at the back of the containers.

How can I recycle metals and appliances?

NO APPLIANCES AND NO ELECTRONICS are to be deposited in the Redfish bins. There are several places in the valley, just minutes away, that will accept these items. One place is G3 Scrap Metal, 512 Midway Rd, Weslaco. Another is Pharr Recycling, 1015 East Ferguson Ave, in Pharr and also Best Buy in McAllen. We have attached the links to all three Websites so you can see what place accepts what.
