Television upgrades starting Saturday 12/11/21

We have some exciting news!

The TV/Internet system is about to get some upgrades starting Saturday 12/11/21. A technician has arrived on site and is prepping materials and equipment to begin work this Saturday. The time period for this work to be done is from 10am to 4pm, barring any major issues during installation. There may be periodic TV outages during this timeframe. We do not expect internet outages, but it is possible.

What is going to be done?

All channels will be upgraded from analog signal to digital. This means that if you have a digital-capable TV, your TV channels will come through much clearer and more defined.

What do I do if my TV doesnt get digital signal after the conversion?

First step is to re-scan for channels on your TV. More information here: https://vpractivities.com/cable-and-internet-project/

What is that still doesn’t work?

Contact Skyweb Support at 844-641-9011 to determine if you need a digital converter. These converters will be available free of charge (limit one per household) beginning Monday.

What about the internet?

All TV and internet signals run on the copper wire in the coaxial cable that connects to your modem, just on different frequencies. Converting the TV signals from analog to digital will free up some of the bandwidth that travels through that copper wire, and we estimate that it will help with the internet speeds. Along with the conversion, new equipment will be installed which will help us to make future improvements with internet speed.

We thank you for your patience while we begin the process of upgrading these systems.

Updates to recent City Hall visits…

Thank you to everyone who called, emailed and were in attendance for the City Hall meetings with the City Council as well as with the Planning and Zoning Commission. Alongside your fellow residents, Resort Manager Rocky Ramirez, Regional Manager Ernesto Leal and our local ELS-contracted attorney were in attendance to contest the proposed approval of a Conditional Use Permit and Late Night License to the new occupants of the nightclub at the southeast corner of the Resort.

Our attorney was allowed to speak on behalf of the Resort and was able to speak to many of the issues that we have experienced in the past with this type of business as well as to the legality of approving such permits, considering the current zoning of the property in question. Special thanks to resident John Bunge who was allowed to speak to the direct impact of himself and his fellow residents; it was a very effective supplement to the arguments of our attorney. Special thanks also goes out to Jim Geiger and the VP Advisory Council for coordinating a petition with over 140 signatures as well as an email campaign to the city. It was truly a community effort.

Between all of our efforts, we were able to successfully get this proposal tabled for the foreseeable future. What this means is that, for now, they are not able to operate legally in the manner in which they were requesting. We will continue to monitor future activity in regards to this subject and will once again reach out to residents for help as the need arises.

Thank you.

Friendly reminder… 2nd City Hall meeting today

Just a reminder that there is a 2nd City Hall meeting today to discuss the Conditional Use Permit for the nightclub next door. Thank you to the many residents who called, emailed and showed up yesterday. if you haven’t had a chance to be involved, please consider doing so. You can still call, email or be in attendance today. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible today. 5:30pm at Donna City Hall, 307 S 12th St

Call to action… your fellow residents need your help.

To all residents of Victoria Palms Resort:

As many of you may already know, there has been discussion recently on our social media pages about how the City of Donna is considering issuing a Conditional Use permit and Late Night License to the night club at the southeast corner of the Resort. Historically, this has been problematic for many of our residents, particularly in that section of the resort.

There is a meeting at City Hall today (Planning and Zoning Committee) and tomorrow (City Council) where the public can voice their concerns regarding the possible approval of these permits and licenses. The meetings will be held at 5:30 pm (please be there at least 30 mins before) at Donna City Hall, located at 307 S 12th St here in Donna. We are asking any and all residents who can be in attendance for both meetings to please show up. The agenda item in question is:

Conditional Use Permit and Late Night Hours License to Shahzado Waqar, dba Blaze Bar and Grill, located at 3708 E Business 83 in Donna TX 78537.

In addition to this we ask that residents call and email their concerns as well. Please see the info below for the appropriate places to phone and email your concerns.

Thank you.
