Weather words of caution today

The weather has been very unpredictable today. Please consider securing loose items outside your homes and staying indoors if you can. While it has been relatively calm most of the morning, it has been reported by local weather stations and on social media that funnel clouds recently formed in nearby Progreso TX.

This may turn out to be nothing, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. Stay safe, all.

Pickleball update!

Please be advised…work will begin today on the pickleball conversion project at the tennis courts. Contractors will being prep work today and will return later in the week to start the main work in that area. The other pickleball courts will remain available for use, but please be cautious around the work area. Thank you and have a great day!

A hot week coming and mailroom update…

Good morning all! We are predicted to have some high heat days this week, so please be cautious when outside. The following links have some great information on how to beat the heat and stay safe.

https://www.ready.gov/heat

https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/extremeheat/heattips.html

Here are just a few highlights:

  • Stay inside
  • Wear sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher, (look for broad spectrum UVA/UVB on the label).
  • Avoid strenuous activities.
  • Wear light clothing.
  • Check on family members and neighbors.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

Mailroom update: Work continues this coming weekend on the flooring in the mailroom. The mailroom will be closed from Friday June 25th @3:30pm through the weekend. Those who have an interior mailbox will not have access to their mail during this time. Please make arrangements to pick up any important letters or packages prior to close. This should allow the flooring to cure properly and services will resume normally on Monday morning. Thank you for your patience while this work is completed.

Annual palm tree trimming has begun!

Contractors have begin trimming the palm trees at the pool areas today. Please be cautious when walking in that area. They will complete the pool areas by tomorrow (Friday) and we will return on July 5th to continue their work in the rest of the resort. Thank you and have a great day!

Honoring Flag Day

Flag Day is celebrated annually on June 14 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. It was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. Although it is not designated as a Federal Holiday, we choose to celebrate the Stars and Stripes. For those who have not seen the large flag at VP, please stop by the Activity Center today see it flying in all its glory.

Mosquito Spraying at VP

It’s that time of year again and the rainy season is upon us. Management has already reached out to the City of Donna to come to the resort to spray for mosquitos. We expect them to complete this within the next week, however we also encourage residents to give them a call. Historically, we have found that the more calls they get from us, the faster they get the job done. The phone number to the City of Donna Public Works Dept is 956-464-6960. Please let them know you live at Victoria Palms and you are requesting mosquitoes spraying in and around the resort.

Also, here as some tips for how to minimize mosquitoes around your home. If you are not currently in the resort, please consider passing this information along to whoever is responsible for maintaining your lawn. Together, we can help minimize mosquitoes in the resort.

Emergency Preparedness – Hurricane season is here!

Happy Friday to everyone! As hurricane season has begun, we would like to take a moment to provide you with the latest resort info regarding Emergency Preparedness. Please take some time to review the following documents for information such as:

  • Emergency supplies to have on hand
  • Preparing your site for a storm
  • Evacuation routes out of the resort
  • Contact numbers for local governmental agencies that can assist in times of disaster…and much more!

Click the links below to view and download. Copies of these documents are available in the Activity Center.

And here is a printable booklet which specifically addresses hurricanes…

Please be on the lookout for upcoming announcements about Emergency Preparedness Meetings which will be held in collaboration with our own dedicated Emergency Preparedness Resident Leaders!

As a reminder, please consider signing up for the Swift911 communication app, (totally free) which is our primary form of communication during times of emergency. This will give you multiple ways to receive emergency communications from the Resort. Hint: Signing up for the text messaging is fine, but the number of characters are limited. For more comprehensive details please also consider registering for the email and voice notifications as well. Please click the link below for detailed instruction on how to sign up for this important app (did we mention it’s free?).

Beautiful week, lift stations etc.

Good morning and Happy Monday to everyone!

Weather forecasts predict a sunny and beautiful week with possible strong wind gusts most days. We encourage you to get out and enjoy this weather!

Thank you to all of you who mowed your lawns this weekend… all that extra rain of the past couple weeks has caused some major growth throughout the park. For those who are not currently in the resort and are having someone do your lawns for you, please consider getting this done as soon as possible so that we may all enjoy (to the fullest) the beauty that is Victoria Palms. Also, due to the expected wind gusts, please consider securing any loose items that may be outside your home to prevent damage to your home or others.

Also due to the recent storms, we have had some recent issues with the lift stations on Kingston. We have attempted repair, but it seems that the best course of action is full replacement. We have ordered new pumps for the lift station at the Memory Garden and hope to have them installed when they arrive late this week or early next week. We appreciate your patience while we get this resolved.

Please be on the lookout for a separate post dedicated to Hurricane Preparedness – the hurricane season is already upon us and forecasts predict a very busy season!

Finally Friday! Rain updates…

Happy Friday everyone!

It looks like we may have some rain showers later today. The maintenance staff has been cleaning out the drains from last night’s rain and preparing for this afternoon/early evening. Please keep in mind, social media such as Facebook and Messenger are not monitored 24/7, so if you need to report any after-hours emergencies such as flooding, please contact the Gate Staff at 956-532-5832 and they will contact the appropriate staff. If there is a medical emergency, please contact 911 first, then contact the gate staff.

Thankfully, it looks like this weekend and next week should be pretty sunny and dry – a great time to catch up on all this grass growth. A huge thank you to all of those residents who have been maintaining nice and trim lawns – we know it has been a challenge with all this extra rainfall and it is very much appreciated. For those who have contractors mowing their lawns for them, please consider having them cut at the earliest possible convenience.

Please be on the lookout for our 2021 Hurricane guide, tips and procedures coming out next week! Have a great weekend and stay dry and safe!

Gate repair and showers later this week

Happy Wednesday folks! It looks like we may get a short break from rain today, but more is expected the remainder of the week. Please stay safe and dry. Also, please be on the lookout for Hurricane Preparedness Info coming soon, as we have now begun Hurricane Season.

Also, we have completed repair work to the access gate by the small laundry. Sections that were rusted out have been repaired and the whole gate has been repainted. See before and after pics below…
